EU retains option to use russian assets to support Ukraine - von der Leyen
The European Union reserves the right to direct the remaining cash from frozen russian assets to finance a loan for Ukraine.
This was announced by the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen.
"We reserve the right to use the remaining cash from russian assets frozen in the EU to finance a loan. This is a solution that we have found together," the President of the European Commission said.
According to her, the issue of further financial support for Ukraine after 2027 will be part of the next long-term budget negotiations in the EU.
As reported, on December 19, the European Union adopted a decision to provide Ukraine with financial assistance of EUR 90 billion in the form of an interest-free loan. The funds will be returned only after russia pays reparations.
At the same time, Hungary, the Czech Republic and Slovakia refused to participate in the financing of this loan, according to a press release of the European Council.
Recall that Washington does not support the idea of seizing russian assets in the EU.
