Ukraine calls on African countries to take action and stop recruiting Africans for war

Ukraine calls on African governments to take action and stop the programs of the aggressor country of russia to recruit Africans to participate in the war. This was announced by the spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine HeorhiI Tykhyi on Wednesday, December 17.

He recalled that the illegal recruitment efforts of the russian federation in Africa are making headlines in African media and turning against the aggressor country.

"What has been revealed so far is probably only the tip of the iceberg. We call on all African media and governments to take decisive measures to stop russian programs that lure young people from across the continent into an illegal aggressive war against Ukraine," the spokesman wrote on X (Twitter).

Tykhyi noted that in the upcoming academic year, Moscow is significantly increasing the number of scholarships for students from Africa. He urged not to be naive and not to think that it is really about education.

The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry spokesman added that to combat illegal recruitment, systemic countermeasures are needed, including official warnings to citizens and the termination of recruitment programs.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, in early November, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine stated that almost 1,500 people from 36 African countries are fighting against Ukraine in the ranks of the russian army.

Earlier, Bloomberg reported that russia is deceiving thousands of students and migrants from Africa to participate in hostilities against Ukraine.

We will remind, in the spring of 2024, the Voice of America wrote, citing investigative journalists, that russia is luring young girls from Africa to work at a company producing Shahed UAVs.
