Bill on sanctions for purchasing or facilitating import of oil from russia submitted to US Senate - Stefanishyna

US Senators D. McCormick (R), J. Hasted (R), E. Warren (D) and C. Coons (D) have submitted a bipartisan bill to the Senate, which provides for sanctions for purchase or facilitation of oil and oil products imports from the aggressor country of russia. This was reported by the Ambassador of Ukraine to the US, Olha Stefanishyna, on her Facebook.

"The authors of the bill emphasized that the purchase of russian oil finances the war against Ukraine, and any countries, companies or financial intermediaries that facilitate such trade must understand the consequences, including the risk of losing access to the US financial system," the report says.

The bill creates a legal basis for increasing sanctions pressure on russia's oil revenues. If approved, the US President will be obliged to impose sanctions on persons involved in the import of russian oil within 90 days. The list will be formed by the Secretary of the Treasury after consultations with the Secretary of State.

"This legislative initiative once again demonstrates strong bipartisan support for further economic pressure on the aggressor. I am grateful to the senators for their position and support!" Stefanishyna added.

Recall that earlier in the US Senate, Trump was accused of the failure of the sanctions policy towards russia.
