Türkiye's Foreign Ministry calls on Europe to assist Ukraine in making "difficult decision" for peace
In order to achieve peace, Ukraine needs Europe's help in making "difficult choices". Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan has stated this, emphasizing the importance of European assistance in resolving the war, CNN Turk reports.
"Here, Europe should help Ukraine in making certain difficult decisions together with Ukraine. Indeed, some elections, some decisions are very difficult for Ukraine. But in order to prevent greater losses, that is, for the greater good, it is necessary to eliminate the evil, that is, the bad... That is, a choice has to be made. I know it is difficult for them. Especially the issue of territory is incredibly difficult. May God not give this to anyone," Fidan said.
The Minister noted that the need to provide Ukraine with guarantees for the future makes any decisions extremely difficult. At the same time, he added that Türkiye, realizing this difficulty, continues to actively promote the negotiation process between the warring parties.
Fidan assured that Istanbul is once again ready to become a platform for peace talks. The diplomat recalled the three rounds of talks that took place last summer, during which significant progress was made on the exchange of prisoners and other humanitarian factors.
"This paved the way for the ongoing negotiations. We are ready to play this positive role. Look, now the Black Sea has become a battlefield. The war has spread to the Black Sea. Now merchant ships and tankers are being attacked in the Black Sea. That is, if the war continues, it will spread to other regions of Europe. That is, God forbid, it should stop here," the Turkish Foreign Minister warned.
Recall that on October 7, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan had a telephone conversation with russian dictator vladimir putin. During the conversation, he emphasized the need to intensify diplomatic initiatives to achieve a just and sustainable peace between Ukraine and russia.
Trump has previously emphasized that Erdogan is respected in both moscow and Kyiv, so he can play a key role in a peaceful settlement, especially if Türkiye refuses to buy russian energy resources.
Washington, in turn, is negotiating with Ankara to stop importing russian oil. In exchange, the United States may offer Türkiye a return to the program of production and supply of F-35 fighters.
