Austrian UNIQA Group to expand presence in Ukrainian insurance market

The Austrian UNIQA Group plans to expand its presence in the Ukrainian insurance market.

This is announced in a statement by the Ministry of Economy, Environment and Agriculture, Ukrainian News Agency reports.

In a meeting held on December 1, the Minister of Economy, Environment and Agriculture of Ukraine Oleksii Sobolev discussed the creation of affordable war risk insurance products with the head of the Austrian insurance and investment company UNIQA Group Wolfgang Kindl.

UNIQA Group considers the Ukrainian market a priority and plans to strengthen its presence, in particular in the life insurance segment.

This is also an important signal for other global insurers.

The Minister noted that UNIQA is already looking for partners among global insurers, allocates part of its profits to cover risks in Ukraine and participates in the EU cargo insurance program, planning to expand coverage to logistics hubs.

During the meeting, the most promising areas where there is an opportunity for active cooperation were also discussed: public-private partnership and concession projects, privatization agreements, EU and IFO infrastructure projects, private sector investments.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, UNIQA Insurance Company is a private joint-stock company, founded in 1994, specializing in risk insurance.

Since 2006, the Insurance Company has been part of UNIQA Group (Austria).

UNIQA International Beteiligungs-Verwaltungs GmbH (Austria) owns 92.23% of the insurance company's shares.

At the beginning of russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the National Bank of Ukraine called on the regulators of the non-banking financial market of Austria, Bulgaria, and Latvia to support the exit of international insurance and other non-banking financial groups from the markets of the russian federation and the Republic of Belarus.
