According to the publication, the delegation seeks to discuss with the US presidential administration the alleged "religious persecution of Orthodox Christians" in Ukraine and claims "increasing violations of religious freedom" by the Ukrainian authorities in relation to the UOC-MP.
Meetings are planned with representatives of the White House Faith Office and the US Department of State.
The group includes representatives of the russian orthodox church outside of russia (ROCOR), the Serbian Orthodox Church in the United States, and the Orthodox Church of America. The delegation was headed by Peter Flew, a lawyer representing the interests of the UOC-MP, as well as co-chair of the Catherine Whiteford Young Republicans National Federation.
According to The Hill, the delegation is supported by the American lobbyist of the UOC-MP, Robert Amsterdam, who is associated with the sanctioned businessman and former MP from the Opposition Platform For Life Vadym Novinsky.
