Macron: US, EU working to strengthen sanctions against russia and its "shadow fleet"
The United States and the European Union are working to tighten restrictions on the aggressor country russia and to counteract the so-called "shadow fleet", which moscow uses to export oil to circumvent sanctions.
French President Emmanuel Macron said this at a joint briefing with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
According to him, the United States and the EU countries intend to continue to increase pressure on russia to force it to end its war against Ukraine.
"Europeans are united with Americans, and they are determined to confront Russia. We are working to strengthen our actions against Russia's 'shadow fleet'," Macron said.
The French president added that recent months have been marked by decisions that have become "real turning points." He did not specify what exactly he meant.
Macron also expressed hope that the war will be over by 2027. This is how he answered the question of whether Paris would support Ukraine with the arrival of his successor.
"I think we will achieve peace before 2027," Macron replied.
He also suggested that his successor could be even more decisive in supporting Ukraine.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, yesterday, November 16, the US President announced "severe sanctions" against countries that trade with russia.
On November 15, the head of European diplomacy, Kaja Kallas, said that supporting Ukraine and putting pressure on russia is more profitable than letting moscow win.
