Contributions from partners to the PURL (Prioritized Ukraine Requirements List) initiative already amount to USD 2.82 billion. This is stated in a message from the Office of the President, Ukrainian News Agency reports.
In particular, it is reported that Deputy Head of the Office of the President Ihor Zhovkva held a meeting with the representative of the NATO International Secretariat Ariella Vie, the key issue of discussion was the implementation of the PURL initiative. Zhovkva thanked NATO for coordinating the supply of lethal American weapons to Ukraine within the framework of this initiative.
"In general, contributions from partners to cover Ukraine's priority needs already amount to USD 2.82 billion. This made it possible to form five packages of American weapons to strengthen Ukrainian defense," the message says.
The parties agreed on the steps necessary to receive new contributions from NATO member states and partners that have not yet joined the program in the near future.
In addition, they discussed in detail the mechanisms for ensuring contributions from NATO countries for the next year. Zhovkva also noted the importance of investing in domestic defense production.
According to the report, 16 countries have already joined the program: the Netherlands, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Germany, Canada, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Iceland, Finland, Belgium, Luxembourg, Slovenia, Portugal, and Spain.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, Defense Minister Denys Shmyhal reported at the 31st meeting of the Contact Group on Defense Issues of Ukraine (Ramstein) on October 15 in Brussels (Belgium) that new contributions to the PURL initiative amounted to USD 422 million, and purchases from the Ukrainian defense-industrial complex amounted to more than USD 715 million.
PURL is an initiative jointly created by NATO and the United States, under which European countries purchase American weapons and transfer them to NATO for further transfer to the Ukrainian Defense Forces, which are resisting russian aggression.
