US and Ukraine holding successful talks on Tomahawk missiles - Stefanishyna
Ukrainian Ambassador to the US Olha Stefanishyna said that talks between Kyiv and Washington on the purchase of long-range Tomahawk missiles, as well as other types of long-range weapons, are proceeding in a positive direction.
She said this in an interview with the Balance of Power program, Bloomberg reports.
"It's not just about Tomahawk, but also about various types of other long- and short-range missiles, and I can only say one thing: this is very positive," Stefanishyna said.
She added that discussions are currently ongoing and numerous Ukrainian delegations are working to increase financial resources for the purchase of greater military potential in the US.
Commenting on the latest russian strikes on energy infrastructure, the diplomat stressed that "this is undoubtedly a very difficult period for Ukraine."
"We are working hard to provide Ukraine with more air defense capabilities. We can survive this winter and another, but that doesn't mean we are doing the right thing," the Ambassador said.
She also stressed that any refusal to put pressure on russia would be perceived as a "green light to increase their capabilities."
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has repeatedly stressed the need to obtain Tomahawk missiles and other long-range means from the United States that would allow Ukraine to hit targets deep inside russian territory.
In turn, US President Donald Trump has stated that these missiles can be effective only if launched by the US military, and the United States does not plan to do this.
Earlier, the Pentagon approved the transfer of Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine, but according to CNN, the deliveries will not begin until Trump personally makes the final decision.
Recall, CNN, citing three informed American and European officials, reported that the Pentagon gave the White House the green light to provide Ukraine with long-range Tomahawk missiles. The final decision on the transfer rests with US President Donald Trump.
