SSU detains russian agent who tried to derail military echelon near Kharkiv
The SSU counterintelligence detained an agent of the aggressor country russia in the Kharkiv Region who, on the instructions of the enemy, tried to "cut" one of the railroad routes of the Defense Forces. This is reported in the SSU statement.
According to law enforcement, the russians wanted to blow up the tracks to derail a freight train of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
To do this, they recruited a 54-year-old local mechanic who came to the attention of russian intelligence officers by posting anti-Ukrainian comments on Telegram channels.
According to the enemy's instructions, the attacker first planted a homemade improvised explosive device (IED) under the sleepers, which was equipped with a sensor. However, the explosion did not cause the train to derail.
His next task was to plant another IED not on the tracks, but under a military echelon.
SSU employees thwarted the enemy's plans: they prevented a new explosion and detained the agent during the preparation stage for sabotage.
During the investigation, law enforcement officers found that after recruitment, russians gave the agent instructions for collecting explosives and transferred components for its manufacture, namely sensors and 8 kilograms of plastid. To transfer the components to the agent, the occupiers used a drone that dropped the cargo in a pre-arranged place in the Kharkiv District.
During the searches, a smartphone with evidence of cooperation with the enemy was seized from the detainee.
Based on the collected evidence, SSU investigators served the offender a notice of suspicion under the following articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine:
- Part 2, Art. 113 (sabotage committed under martial law);
- Part 1, Art. 14, Part 2, Art. 113 (preparation for sabotage under martial law);
- Part 1, Art. 263 (illegal handling of explosives).
The enemy agent is currently in custody without the right to be released on bail. He faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, the Security Service's counterintelligence and the National Police detained an FSB agent, who was correcting the attacks of the aggressor country russia on the energy infrastructure of the Vinnytsia Region.
