Hungary wants to form "anti-Ukrainian" alliance with Slovakia and Czech Republic - Politico
Budapest plans to form an anti-Ukrainian alliance with Slovakia and the Czech Republic to coordinate common positions and present a united front during European Union meetings and summits. This is reported by Politico, citing an advisor to Hungarian Prime Minister Balazs Orban.
According to the official, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban intends to create a common front with the leader of Czech right-wing populists Andrej Babis and Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico to coordinate actions within the EU and promote his own, mainly anti-Ukrainian agenda.
It is Robert Fico and Andrejy Babis who share Viktor Orban's position on Ukraine - they advocate negotiations with Moscow instead of increasing economic pressure on it.
Although the creation of such a political alliance is still far away, its emergence, according to Politico, could seriously undermine the unity of the European Union and complicate decisions on financial and military support for Ukraine.
"I think it will happen. And it will be increasingly noticeable. It worked very well during the migration crisis. This is how we could resist," Balazs Orban said.
This is about the migration crisis of 2015, when the Visegrad Four countries opposed the EU's refugee distribution system. However, this time Poland, led by pro-Ukrainian Prime Minister Donald Tusk, is unlikely to join the new alliance, Politico notes.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban may find support in his attempt to stop Ukraine's accession to the EU in unusual corners for him - in particular, from French President Emmanuel Macron.
Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban also downplayed the incident involving the violation of Ukrainian airspace by Hungarian drones and stated that our state "is not independent and sovereign."
