Russian Transneft maintains oil pumping volumes despite sanctions, part passes through Ukraine

Despite international sanctions and market restrictions, the russian company Transneft said that in 2025 it will maintain oil pumping volumes at the 2024 level, part passes through Ukraine.

This was announced by the former general director of the Gas Transportation System Operator of Ukraine (GTSOU) Serhii Makohon on Facebook, Ukrainian News Agency reports.

"In the fourth year of the war, up to 12 million tons of oil are still transiting through the territory of Ukraine via the Druzhba oil pipeline annually," Makohon wrote.

In 2024, approximately 11.36 million tons of russian oil were transported to Hungary and Slovakia.

He added that not only does transit continue, but what's more, the oil transit tariff has not been revised since June 2023, while the transit tariff is not set by the National Commission for the Regulation of Energy and Natural Resources of Ukraine, but by the state-owned Ukrtransnafta (part of the Naftogaz Group) under a contract with the customer, the russian Transneft.

Makohon noted that Naftogaz is in dire need of funds for gas right now.

Therefore, in addition to loans and financial assistance, the government could also force the russians to pay more for oil transit if the transit continues anyway.

Transneft President Mykola Tokarev reported that overall, pumping remains stable, a slight decrease occurred only due to the OPEC+ agreement.
