Forests of Ukraine SE preparing for increase in demand for firewood for needs of population, will not sell at auctions

The Forests of Ukraine State Enterprise is preparing for an increase in demand for firewood as a result of massive attacks on the Ukrainian energy infrastructure.

This is said in a statement by the Forests of Ukraine State Enterprise, the Ukrainian News agency reports.

The report says that since October, the company has suspended the sale of firewood for non-industrial use for commercial counterparties, such wood is not put up for auctions to ensure a reserve for the needs of the population and social facilities.

The daily volume of firewood harvesting has increased to 10,000 cubic meters, and about 150,000 cubic meters of fuel wood are constantly available in the warehouses of the forestries of the Forests of Ukraine State Enterprise.

The Forests of Ukraine said that in 2024 the company sold 2.38 million cubic meters of "social" wood (average price of about UAH 1,000/m³) and this year only 1.5 million cubic meters were sold - despite constant calls to buy firewood in advance, without waiting for the heating season.

It is noted that the demand for fuel wood until recently remained not too high (on average, 150,000 cubic meters were purchased per month), and with the approach of the heating season, sales volumes increased to 220,000 cubic meters.

The price of social firewood is stable, although the market value of wood (round timber and industrial firewood) has increased by 50% on average this year.

For the needs of the social sphere, in 2025, the Forests of Ukraine SE sold 135,000 cubic meters of fuelwood.

The company notes that only two-thirds of the forest fund is used by the Forests of Ukraine SE. Firewood is also sold by municipal forestries and other forest users.

The Forests of Ukraine SE is also ready to provide fuel for thermal generation facilities, selling them firewood for industrial use at list prices demand for wood in Ukraine continues to grow and prices are rising accordingly.
