Decision to pause hostilities near Zaporizhzhia NPP may be made tomorrow - CNN
A decision to suspend hostilities near the Zaporizhzhia NPP in order to repair damaged power lines may be made on Friday, October 17. This was reported by CNN on Thursday, October 16, citing the head of the russian state nuclear corporation Rosatom, Alexei Likhachev.
Likhachev said that a decision to pause hostilities near the Zaporizhzhia NPP may be made tomorrow. According to him, the "period of silence" will allow repairmen to work on two damaged power lines, one of which is located in the territory controlled by the occupiers, and the other - by Ukraine.
"This is a very difficult decision that requires a fair balance. This is very indicative, very preliminary, and it is possible that such a decision will be implemented tomorrow," Likhachev said.
The Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rafael Grossi, said that he expects repair work to resume power supply to the Zaporizhzhia NPP in the near future after the site lost its connection to the grid for the tenth time during the russian aggression against Ukraine.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, on October 9, Grossi said that the process of connecting two power lines to the Zaporizhzhia NPP had begun.
On October 2, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha said that the aggressor country, russia, was preparing to connect the temporarily occupied Zaporizhzhia NPP to its power system, which increases the risk of nuclear incidents.
As a reminder, on September 23, the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine announced a blackout at the Zaporizhzhia NPP.
