Pakistan strikes at Afghan capital
New fighting broke out along the border between Afghanistan and Pakistan, with the countries accusing each other. Pakistan has struck Kabul and announced the elimination of about twenty Taliban. It nwas reported by the BBC and The Khaama Press on Wednesday, October 15.
Pakistan's military said its troops killed "15-20 Afghan Taliban" in the Spin-Boldak border area. At the same time, a Taliban government spokesman said that Pakistan had killed 12 Afghan civilians and wounded more than 100.
"Zabihullah Mujahid, the Taliban’s chief spokesman, said in a post on X on Wednesday that Pakistani forces attacked the border district early in the morning using both light and heavy weapons. He said Taliban units “responded forcefully,” claiming that “many Pakistani soldiers were killed” and several of their posts and tanks were captured," the report said.
According to Taliban officials, the clashes began around 4 a.m. and lasted until around 8 a.m. Local sources confirmed heavy cross-border fighting, which resulted in casualties on both sides and damaged nearby civilian areas.
Medical personnel in Kandahar told local media that at least 25 bodies and more than 80 wounded were taken to hospitals after the attack. Officials said many women and children from residential areas near the border were injured. Pakistan has not yet commented on the Taliban's claims and reports of civilian deaths.
Fighting has flared repeatedly this month after Pakistan accused the Taliban of harboring militant groups behind attacks on its territory. The Taliban denies the allegations.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, in December 2022, the Taliban for the first time after returning to power in Afghanistan implemented a public death penalty.
On April 28, Pakistan's Defense Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif said he believed India's military intervention is inevitable after militants attacked tourists in Kashmir.
On May 6, India announced an attack on nine targets in Pakistan and in the states of Jammu and Kashmir. After the attack, Pakistan announced the closure of the country's airspace for 48 hours.
