Ukraine needs to attract about 10 million migrant workers to restore economy - Mylovanov
After the end of the war, Ukraine needs to attract about 10 million migrant workers to ensure positive changes in the economy.
This was stated in an interview with Ukrainian Pravda by former Minister of Economy and Head of the Kyiv School of Economics Tymofii Mylovanov.
According to him, migrants will first of all have to be attracted to working professions, because the country is facing a critical imbalance between the number of pensioners and those who work.
"Look at how many pensioners we have, calculate the ratio between those who work and those who have retired. This is critical," Mylovanov noted.
He added that the first priority for Ukraine remains victory in the war, and the second - the formation of a highly productive, competitive nation of the European level.
"If we ourselves do not learn to be smarter, we will import not tens of thousands, but millions," he stressed.
In conclusion, Mylovanov quoted Ivan Bahrianyi [Ukrainian poet, prose writer, playwright, publicist, journalist and political figure - ed.], emphasizing the need to act decisively: "It is better to die running, than to live rotting."
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, the rapid recovery in the economy has ended, so without large-scale investments or the mass return of migrants, GDP growth in the coming years will be about 4% per year.
