Verkhovna Rada calls for Donald Trump to be nominated for Nobel Peace Prize. Which MPs came up with initiative?
Members of Parliament Anna Skorokhod and Mykola Tyshchenko urged their colleagues to support an appeal to the Nobel Committee with a proposal to nominate US President Donald Trump for the Peace Prize during a meeting of the Verkhovna Rada on October 7.
Parliamentarians recalled this during a meeting of the Verkhovna Rada on October 7.
At the end of September, a draft resolution with a corresponding appeal was already registered in the Verkhovna Rada.
Anna Skorokhod (For the Future party) expressed indignation that the document was not included in the agenda, calling the issue "strategically important." She said that such an initiative could be a sign of support and "loyalty" of the Ukrainian parliament to Trump's policy.
"We demand weapons from the United States, sanctions - whatever we want. We all remember very well the ugly things that happened on the part of our politicians during the US election campaign in support of the Democrats. Donald Trump also remembers this. If today we cannot show that Ukraine and the Ukrainian parliament absolutely and fully support Donald Trump in his peace processes, what can we talk about?" Skorokhod said, also calling for more active work with American lawmakers.
She was supported by MP Mykola Tyshchenko (unaffiliated), who proposed to include the appeal in the agenda.
"Let's see, friends, how much we support our partners, the United States and our friend, a man with a big sincere heart, Donald Trump," he said.
Earlier, MP Valerii Hnatenko (Restoration of Ukraine) said that Trump's peace plan for Gaza "is already showing results."
Who nominated Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize and when?
Donald Trump has been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize by representatives from around the world. Among them was Ukrainian politician Oleksandr Merezhko, Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Foreign Policy. However, in June, he withdrew his proposal, explaining that he had "lost all faith and hope" in Trump's ability to promote peace between Ukraine and russia.
In September, Ukrainian MPs Anna Skorokhod, Anatolii Urbanskyi, Taras Batenko, Oleksandr Yurchenko, and Anatolii Burmich proposed to the Verkhovna Rada to address the Nobel Committee with an initiative to nominate US President Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize.
US President Donald Trump stated that the absence of the Nobel Peace Prize would be an insult to his country.
Nobel week runs from October 6 to 13, and the name of the peace prize winner will be announced on October 10. Members of parliaments, governments, current heads of state and representatives of international organizations can nominate candidates for this award.
