Almost 40% of russia's oil refining capacity was idle in late September

As of the end of September, almost 40% of the oil refining capacity of the aggressor country of russia was idle. The main reason for this was drone strikes on oil refineries.

The russian agency RBC reported this yesterday, September 30, citing its own sources.

According to the agency, as of September 28, 38% of oil refining capacity was not working at russian refineries. Up to 70% of all downtime cases were caused by systematic attacks by Ukrainian drones, which led to the destruction or damage of key equipment at the refineries.

The total amount of available capacity for processing oil into gasoline decreased by 6% compared to August. In September, it fell by another 18%. As for diesel fuel, the amount of available processing capacity decreased by 7% in August and by 20% in September.

Experts believe that eliminating the problem and reducing refinery downtime may take a long time. The reason is that to compensate for the losses, enterprises that were expected to undergo scheduled repairs were restarted.

"It is difficult to predict the normalization of production and supplies, because the current situation has no precedents in russian history <...> Administrative decisions are not able to completely relieve tension, and with the onset of cold weather, the market will require additional volumes of diesel fuel," the agency writes.

It is noted that the measures taken by the russian authorities have failed to influence the situation - there is a shortage of gasoline in the regions and restrictions are being imposed on its sale.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, yesterday, September 30, the russian government announced the extension of the ban on gasoline exports. It will be in effect until the end of the year.
