US President Donald Trump said that NATO member countries should shoot down russian aircraft that violate their airspace. His words were quoted by Clash Report on Tuesday, September 23.
Trump met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and answered questions from journalists on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York. The US President was asked whether NATO member countries should shoot down russian aircraft if they violate their airspace.
"Yes, I think so," Trump answered briefly.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, on September 23, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said that NATO would not shoot down russian planes unless they attacked NATO members.
On September 22, Donald Tusk said that Poland would "without hesitation" shoot down air targets that violate its airspace and pose a threat, but would take a more cautious approach to situations that are "less unambiguous."
As a reminder, on September 19, the Estonian Foreign Ministry summoned russia's charge d'affaires in Estonia to protest and hand over a note over the violation of airspace by three fighter jets.
