Russian drone wreckage found in western Latvia

A wreckage of a Gerbera drone, which is actively used by the army of the aggressor country russia in the war against Ukraine, was discovered in western Latvia.

The press service of the Latvian National Armed Forces has reported this on X.

The tail part of the drone was discovered today, September 18, on the beach near the settlement of Vārve. It is located in Ventspils Municipality in the far west of the country.

An unexploded ordnance disposal team was sent to the site to analyze the found object.

Later, Latvian Defense Minister Andris Sprūds reported that the wreckage found on the beach is part of a Gerbera UAV. This drone is not equipped with a warhead, but is used as a false target to complicate the operation of air defense systems.

Sprūds did not specify how the russian drone fragment ended up in the far west of Latvia.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, today, September 18, Ukraine and Poland agreed to begin joint exercises on the use and fight against drones.

The day before, it became known that after the incident with russian drones that flew into Polish airspace, Polish military personnel will undergo training in destroying UAVs. They will be trained by Ukrainian specialists.
