Romanian F-16s fail to shoot down russian drone heading for Ukraine

Romanian Defense Minister Ionuț Moșteanu said that F-16 fighters were a few steps away from shooting down a russian drone approaching Romanian airspace.

He spoke about this on CNN's Antena 3 channel.

Ionuț Moșteanu said that the drone was flying at low altitude and, after approaching the border, suddenly changed course and headed towards Ukraine.

Two Romanian F-16s were scrambled to intercept the device, as well as two German Eurofighters on duty in Romania.

Ionuț Moșteanu recalled that in the spring the country adopted a law that allows the military to shoot down drones that invade its airspace. According to the minister, similar incidents near the Romanian border occur almost every week.

Recall that on September 14, there was a risk of "airspace objects" falling over the northern region of Tulcea County in Romania, so President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Romania raised combat aircraft due to a russian drone that penetrated the country's territory by about 10 kilometers and was in the airspace of a NATO country for about 50 minutes.
