Italian Foreign Ministry says it will not send troops to Ukraine and peace should not be expected by Christmas
The Italian Foreign Ministry said that it is not worth expecting a significant improvement in the peace situation in Ukraine by Christmas and that sanctions could be an effective tool against russia.
The head of the Italian Foreign Ministry, Antonio Tajani, has announced this, Rai News reports.
Thus, he stated that the prospects for peace in Ukraine remain distant, and the only effective tool for pressure on russia at the moment could be new financial sanctions. Tajani also noted that US President Donald Trump was counting on vladimir putin's constructive position, but his response was "negative".
"The only real tool today is sanctions, which would deprive Russia of the opportunity to finance the army through access to resources," the head of Italian diplomacy emphasized.
Antonio Tajani confirmed that Italy will not send its troops to Ukraine, despite the threats of russian president vladimir putin. Instead, he proposed an alternative path – a security agreement similar to NATO Article 5. This would guarantee Ukraine's independence and security without a direct military presence.
"We propose another path – a security agreement similar to NATO Article 5… This is a rational proposal that Putin cannot consider a provocation, but which would ensure Ukraine's independence and security," Tajani explained.
On August 22, Politico reported, citing its own sources, that US President Trump believes that Ukraine will have to accept russia's terms to end the war.
