Trump's tariffs reach Nova Poshta

Nova Poshta is updating its delivery rules in the US due to changes in legislation.

This is stated in the company's message, the Ukrainian News agency reports.

The message states that from August 29, 2025, the US President's decree abolished the preferential duty-free threshold of USD 800 (the so-called "de minimis").

Previously, this threshold was applied when importing goods for personal use to the US, as well as any goods purchased abroad in foreign online stores and marketplaces.

"In accordance with the new rules, all international shipments imported into the US will be subject to customs duties and taxes, regardless of their value. This may lead to an increase in customs clearance time and additional costs for recipients in the US. The duty rate for goods originating in Ukraine is set at 10%," the message says.

From August 26, the sender can choose who will pay customs payments, either the Sender or the Recipient.

It is noted that if the Sender is the payer, then only 10% of the cost of the shipment will be added to the delivery cost, and customs clearance services are included in the tariff, and if the Recipient is chosen as the payer, then he will have to pay 10% of the cost of the shipment upon receipt, as well as customs brokerage services - from USD 25 per shipment.

The recipient will be sent an email with a link to pay for customs and customs brokerage services. The shipment will be delivered after payment.

The final amount of customs and customs brokerage services will be determined during customs clearance upon delivery to the US.

The message from Nova Poshta contains important clarifications, namely the need to correctly indicate the country of origin of the goods in the shipment.

The 10% customs rate applies only to goods manufactured in Ukraine.

For goods from other countries, rates may vary.

It is also said that the US customs authorities are strengthening control over all imported goods.

Particular attention will be paid to: the correctness of the description of the goods; the reliability of the determination of the country of origin; the compliance of the declared purpose of export and the accuracy of the indicated market value of the goods.

If inaccuracies or discrepancies are detected, the goods may be detained with the risk of additional charges.

In the branch, operators will offer customers to choose who will pay customs duties - "Sender" or "Recipient".

Based on the cost of the shipment, the operator will inform what the amount will be for the Sender and what for the Recipient.

They will be able to create MENs using the standard flow, and at the branch they will be asked if they wish to pay customs duties on behalf of the Recipient.

And for customers who create shipments in the Nova Poshta mobile application, information about changes in US legislation will be implemented.

For clients who use the personal account of Nova Poshta, at the stage of filling out the invoice, there will be an opportunity to choose the "Customs Duty Payer": "Recipient" or "Sender".

The corresponding calculations will be displayed in the interface.

And for those clients who use the Nova Post API, a technical solution has been developed to select the customs payer for the US.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, in January-June 2025, compared to the same period last year, Nova Poshta increased its revenue by 23% to UAH 24.6 billion.

Nova Poshta is an operator in the express delivery market of postal items, established in 2001.
