Trump says putin, Zelenskyy to meet after Alaska
US President Donald Trump said he hopes to arrange a meeting between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and russian leader vladimir putin to end the war. His words were quoted by CNN and Reuters on Thursday, August 14.
Trump said he was going to mediate between putin and Zelenskyy in talks aimed at stopping the war. According to him, some European leaders could be participants in this meeting.
"The more important meeting will be the second meeting that we're having. We're going to have a meeting with President Putin, President Zelenskyy, myself, and maybe we'll bring some of the European leaders along, maybe not," Trump said in the Oval Office ahead of his Friday sit-down with the russian dictator in Alaska.
According to Trump, putin and Zelenskyy are ready for peace after more than three years of fighting. According to him, the war in Ukraine has turned out to be more difficult to resolve than he initially expected.
"We'll see if they can get along. I thought the easiest one would be this one. It's actually the most difficult," Trump stressed.
As the US President says, there is a 25% chance that the meeting with putin will not be successful.
"This meeting sets up the second meeting. But there's a 25% chance that this meeting won't be a successful meeting," he said.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on August 14, US President Donald Trump said that, in his opinion, russian leader vladimir putin is ready to conclude an agreement to end the war in Ukraine.
According to The Telegraph, Trump wants to offer putin access to Alaska's resources and easing sanctions in exchange for ending the war.
Recall, on August 15, a meeting between Trump and putin will take place in Alaska. It will be dedicated, in particular, to russia's war against Ukraine.
