Ukraine among first in world to launch Starlink in smartphone – Fedorov
Ukraine is among the first in the world to launch Starlink Direct to Cell technology during a war, which will allow you to stay connected without mobile network coverage via SMS. First Deputy Prime Minister - Minister of Digital Transformation Mykhailo Fedorov announced this on his Facebook on Tuesday, August 12.
Ukraine has launched Starlink Direct to Cell technology in test mode, which will allow every smartphone to have satellite communication, Fedorov noted. According to him, Ukrainians will be able to stay connected without mobile network coverage via SMS.
"Thanks to satellite technology, users do not need to buy expensive equipment - a 4G smartphone with a SIM or ESIM card is enough. Ukrainians will be able to stay connected in hard-to-reach places: in the mountains, during bad weather, network failures or power outages. The main condition for the technology is direct visibility of the sky," Fedorov said.
In addition to Ukraine, the Direct to Cell technology is also being launched by the US, Australia, Japan, Canada and New Zealand, which are launching the Direct to Cell technology. The technology is currently undergoing beta testing, and its official launch is planned for the fall.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on August 7, Fedorov said that the first state infrastructure for the development of artificial intelligence will appear in Ukraine.
Recall, on July 10, Kyivstar announced that Ukraine will become the first European country where mobile services based on Starlink satellite communication will begin operating.
