In early August, Ukraine increased electricity imports by 2.3 times
In early August 2025, Ukraine increased electricity imports: in the first 10 days of the month, 151,500 MWh were already imported, which is 2.3 times more than the volumes for the first decade of July 2025.
This is stated in the ExPro publication, the Ukrainian News agency reports.
It is noted that the need for imports increased due to increased consumption in the power system due to the heat.
According to ExPro, the change in marginal prices in short-term market segments allowed for uninterrupted attraction of imported resources, emergency assistance is currently almost not activated.
In the first half of 2025, Ukraine imported almost 1.3 million MWh of electricity for a total amount of EUR 165 million.
According to ExPro Electricity, the most expensive imports were in February-March of this year, at average prices of over EUR 180/MWh.
Most electricity is imported during the "evening peak" hours - since the beginning of August, on some days, import capacity in the evening could exceed 1.6 GW.
It is during these periods of the day that electricity in neighboring markets is the most expensive and can exceed EUR 200/MWh.
Despite the growth in exports in the summer, import costs are significantly higher than export revenues.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, in the second working week of July (July 7-11), electricity imports to Ukraine doubled compared to the previous one - to 44,000 MWh.
In July, compared to June, Ukraine increased electricity exports by 16% to 282,200 MWh.
