Side by side with Ukraine. Trump administration unexpectedly declares its support for Ukraine

The administration of US President Donald Trump made a statement on Ukraine, which came as a surprise against the background of the previous cautious rhetoric of the White House.

The deputy spokesperson of the US State Department, Mignon Houston, has stated this on the air of Postimees.

"This administration wants a long, lasting, enduring peace in the region. We want to continue standing shoulder to shoulder with Ukraine as Ukraine calls for a ceasefire that is comprehensive, that is full, that halts any assault on civilians, on critical infrastructure," Houston said.

Usually, representatives of the Trump team refrained from open statements of support for Ukraine, trying to remain neutral, which was explained by the attempts of the American president to negotiate peace with russia.

Even during the election campaign, Trump promised to quickly end the war in the event of his return to the White House. However, as practice has shown, he failed to force russian leader vladimir putin to stop the aggression.

Earlier, Trump offered MOSCOW an unconditional ceasefire for 30 days, which Ukraine supported, but Russia ignored. At the end of July, he gave the kremlin a deadline of 50 days to stop the fighting, which he later reduced to 10 days. Now russia has until August 8, otherwise, according to the US president, new sanctions will be imposed.

Trump sent his special envoy Steve Witkoff to negotiate with moscow. US Ambassador to NATO Matthew Whitaker expressed hope that his mission could yield real results.

Meanwhile, Trump declared the US readiness for a nuclear conflict with russia.
