IAEA records explosions near Zaporizhzhia NPP
The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) team working at the Zaporizhzhia NPP recorded explosions and smoke near one of the auxiliary facilities not far from the station site.
It was reported by the agency's press service.
According to IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi, the Zaporizhzhia NPP administration informed the agency that since 9:00 a.m. this facility has been under fire, including with the use of drones. As specified, the auxiliary facility is located approximately 1,200 meters from the main territory of the station.
"It was the latest in a series of incidents in recent weeks and months further highlighting possible dangers to nuclear safety during the military conflict at the ZNPP," the IAEA stressed.
Rafael Grossi added that such explosions pose a potential threat to the station.
"Any attack in the vicinity of a nuclear power plant – regardless of the intended target – poses potential risks also for nuclear safety and must be avoided. Once again, I call for maximum military restraint near nuclear facilities to prevent the continued risk of a nuclear accident," he said.
Recall that the International Atomic Energy Agency has not detected any increase in radiation levels at the temporarily occupied Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant.
