G7 positively assesses Ukraine's steps to restore independence of NABU and SAPO

Ambassadors of the G7 countries (USA, Great Britain, France, Germany, Italy, Canada and Japan) welcome the decision of the Ukrainian authorities to restore the independence of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SAPO).

This is stated in a joint statement of the G7 Ambassadors, which they published on X (Twitter).

"G7 Ambassadors welcome the President's commitment to swiftly restoring and ensuring independence of anti-corruption agencies," the message says.

The G7 noted that further progress in reforms to combat corruption is a demand of the Ukrainian people.

In addition, Ukraine's integration into the European Union and the business climate in the country depend on progress in reforms.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, on July 24, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy submitted to the parliament for approval the bill No. 13533 on strengthening the powers of the NABU and the SAPO.

This happened against the backdrop of days of protests against the adoption of the bill No. 12414, which reduces the independence of anti-corruption bodies. It was adopted on July 22 and signed by the head of state on the same day.

As a reminder, today, July 25, Parliament Speaker Ruslan Stefanchuk announced that MPs will gather to consider the bill No. 13533 next Thursday, July 31.
