Russia flares gas and reduces gas production

Gas production in russia fell by 3.1% - due to the suspension of transit through Ukraine and sanctions against russian LNG.

This was announced by the former director general of the Gas Transportation System Operator of Ukraine (GTSOU) Serhii Makohon on Facebook, Ukrainian News Agency reports.

Makohon noted that in January-June 2025, gas production decreased compared to the same period in 2024 by 3.1% to 335.3 billion cubic meters of gas (natural + associated), namely, natural gas production decreased by 2.7%, associated (ANG) - by 5.7%; however, flared gas was 6.8% more - 12.3 billion cubic meters.

He wrote that regional dynamics: Siberia - +21.7%, the rest of the districts - in the red.

It is noted that LNG rates also fell - to 16.5 million tons (-5.1%), and June was 20% weaker than May.

Makohon believes that the reasons were the suspension of gas transit through Ukraine and US sanctions against LNG terminals in the North-West region (Portovaya and Kryogaz-Vysotsk) that caused a sharp reduction in LNG production in this region.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, after losing the main European gas markets, russia is actively reorienting itself towards the export of mineral fertilizers, which are produced from natural gas.
