Ukrainian fiber-optic drones double their range of attack – Digital Transformation Ministry

Ukrainian fiber-optic drones, which are resistant to enemy electronic warfare, are already capable of hitting enemy targets at a distance of more than 40 km.

The Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine - Minister of Digital Transformation of Ukraine Mykhailo Fedorov has reported this on his Telegram channel.

"Three months ago, we tested fiber-optic drones with a range of up to 20 km. Today, these are solutions capable of hitting enemy targets at a distance of more than 40 km. This is the result of systematic work: feedback from the military, unique technological solutions from developers, coordination and support from Brave1," the minister said.

The minister also reported on the advantages of fiber-optic drones over conventional ones and how this technology works.

"Fiber-optic FPV drones give an advantage where conventional solutions no longer work. In conditions of electronic warfare, they remain in contact, because the signal is transmitted via a cable that cannot be jammed or intercepted. This means stable control, clear video, and precise strikes on the enemy," the Ministry of Digital Transformation said in a statement.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, in April, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that over 20 new certified samples of drones with a fiber-optic control system appeared in Ukraine in 2025. 11 enterprises have mastered their production. Positive dynamics are also being recorded regarding drones capable of operating over long distances.

In April, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrskyi reported that the Armed Forces of Ukraine are already receiving fiber-optic drones with a 20-kilometer cable, insensitive to the effects of electronic warfare, and this may deprive the russians of the advantages they currently have.
