European gas storage facilities are 60% full
The occupancy rate of European underground gas storage facilities (UGS) exceeded 60% on July 5.
This was announced by the ExPro publication, citing GIE data, Ukrainian News Agency reports.
The report states that 64.5 billion cubic meters of natural gas are stored in the storage facilities.
European countries have increased gas reserves in storage facilities by 10% over the past month, from June 5, when 50% occupancy was achieved by July 5.
In total, about 11 billion cubic meters of natural gas were pumped into storage facilities during this period.
It is noted that the rate of gas injection into European storage facilities continues to increase, which has reduced the difference between this year's storage capacity and the average capacity over the past 5 years to 13.5%.
Compared to last year, European storage facilities have 19.7 billion cubic meters, or 23% less gas.
In the first 5 days of July, 1.67 billion cubic meters of natural gas were pumped into European storage facilities, 19% more than in the same period last year.
During June 2025, gas injection into European underground gas storage facilities amounted to about 11 billion cubic meters, 1.5 times more than in June last year.
Given the lower gas reserves in storage facilities than in previous years, Europe needs larger volumes of gas injection before the start of the next heating season.
The bulk of the additional injection volumes are currently being carried out due to increased LNG imports.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, natural gas reserves in Ukrainian underground gas storage facilities (UGS) exceeded 8 billion cubic meters on June 28.
European Union member states have reached an agreement with the European Parliament to relax rules for filling gas storage facilities amid concerns that previous requirements were contributing to rising energy prices.
