Paris opens Seine to swimming for first time in 100 years

Paris is once again open to swimming in the Seine for the first time since 1923. The city has officially opened three swimming areas along the riverbanks. They will be open daily until August 31 and will be able to welcome more than a thousand visitors a day. Reuters reports.

This was made possible thanks to a multi-year program to clean up the river, which was intensified in connection with the preparations for the Olympic Games. As part of the project, treatment plants were modernized, tens of thousands of houses were connected to the sewer system and new rainwater tanks were built.

Parisians and tourists have eagerly taken advantage of the new opportunity. Many of them note that the water is pleasantly warm, transparent and really clean. Some have noticed a little algae, but they consider this to be quite natural for an open river.

The water quality will be checked daily, and the accessibility of the zones will be marked with green and red flags.

In addition to Paris, 14 more swimming zones will be opened on the Seine and Marne in the vicinity of the capital - two of them are already operating.

At the same time, some users on the social network X shared photos showing garbage in the water and noted that they would not swim in the Seine under any circumstances.

Recall that last year, the Paralympics were postponed due to dirty water in the Seine.
