Invaders carry out almost 6,000 strikes using cluster munitions since February 2022 — MFA
The army of the aggressor country russia has carried out almost 6,000 strikes using cluster munitions. Often, civilian objects are the targets of such strikes.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine has stated this.
Since February 24, 2022, Ukraine has recorded 5,974 facts of the use of cluster munitions of various types by the invaders. These are artillery shells, aircraft bombs and missiles of various types.
The strikes with cluster munitions on Chernihiv on March 17, 2022 (22 killed and 31 injured) and the Kramatorsk railway station on April 8, 2022 (54 killed and 135 injured) are particularly brutal.
It is emphasized that this is far from a complete list of settlements in Ukraine that have been hit by cluster munitions. Such shelling has led to numerous civilian casualties.
"Russian murderers are deliberately and purposefully using cluster munitions to maximize civilian casualties and destruction. This is part of the systemic policy of terror that Moscow is implementing against the Ukrainian people," the ministry said in a statement.
By using cluster munitions, russia is violating the Geneva Convention relative to the Protection of Civilian Persons in Time of War, the Additional Protocol to the Geneva Conventions of August 12, 1949, and the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court, which defines deliberate attacks against civilians as a war crime.
The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry called on the international community to significantly increase pressure on russia, in particular, to impose "destructive sanctions" against its economy and industry.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, after the army's massive missile attack on Kyiv on the night of June 17, cluster munitions were found in the apartments of one of the high-rise buildings.
We also wrote that on May 1, 2025, the occupiers attacked Kyiv with strike drones. They dropped on the capital cluster munitions that react to light and vibration.
