Ukraine and Council of Europe sign agreement to establish special tribunal for crime of aggression by RF
On Wednesday, June 25, in Strasbourg, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Council of Europe Secretary General Alain Berset signed an agreement to establish a special tribunal to investigate the crime of aggression by the russian federation against Ukraine. This was announced in a statement by the Office of the President of Ukraine.
According to Zelenskyy, the charter of the special tribunal clearly states that the russian president, the head of his government and the minister of foreign affairs will bear responsibility for the crimes - without any mention of personal immunities. The President added that this means that they will not escape punishment even after they no longer hold their positions.
The russians and their accomplices responsible for the crime of aggression against Ukraine will be tried in The Hague.
The special tribunal will also cooperate with the International Criminal Court. The proceedings can be investigated in parallel by both institutions, without interfering with each other's work.
As Ukrainian News Agency reported, earlier, an international coalition of 39 states (Core Group) officially supported the creation of a special tribunal regarding the crime of russian aggression against Ukraine.
