Naftogaz Group activates seismic exploration in west of Ukraine
JSC UkrGasVydobuvannya, which is part of the Naftogaz Group, plans to conduct 3D seismic surveys on an area of 230 sq. km in the western region of Ukraine.
This is indicated in a statement of the Naftogaz Group, the Ukrainian News agency reports.
The statement says that in conditions of a full-scale war and shelling of critical infrastructure, the development of production in the west is an important component of ensuring the energy security of the state.
“For a long time, this region was not in focus due to the depletion of deposits - compared to the east, it was considered less promising. However, modern seismic exploration opens up new opportunities: it allows for more accurate detection of gas where it was previously impossible. We expect that the results of new studies will allow drilling to begin as early as 2026-2027,” said Serhii Koretskyi, the head of the Naftogaz Group.
During 2019-2023, the company has already processed about 1,600 sq. km of 3D seismic in the region.
This allowed for the drilling of more than 10 new wells.
Four of them gave initial flows of 80 to 270,000 cubic meters of gas per day - indicators that can be considered significant for the region, where gas production began back in 1912.
Over the past five years, UkrGasVydobuvannya has increased reserves in the region by 2.4 billion cubic meters.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, JSC UkrGasVydobuvannya, which is part of the Naftogaz Group, will receive a loan from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development in the amount of USD 36.4 million to upgrade drilling equipment.
UkrGasVydobuvannya is the largest gas producer in Ukraine, 100% of the company's shares belong to Naftogaz.
