Plane crash in India. Details and facts about Boeing 787 Dreamliner
The Boeing 787 Dreamliner of Air India, which crashed in Ahmedabad in western India, was put into operation in December 2013 and was one of 27 such aircraft in the fleet of Air India. This was reported by the Hindustan Times and CNN on Thursday, June 12.
The plane arrived in Ahmedabad from New Delhi, the main hub and engineering base of the airline. The flight, which was headed to London, was operated as a codeshare with Singapore Airlines, a joint venture partner of Air India. The publication writes that this is the first total loss, or "loss of the hull", of the Dreamliner aircraft since the model entered commercial operation.
At the same time, Ahmedabad, India, is among the top 10 airports in the country in terms of passenger traffic.
"Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to Home Minister Amit Shah and Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu about the crash. The Prime Minister has asked the two ministers to visit Ahmedabad and ensure that all possible assistance is provided to the victims," the report said.
According to Boeing's commercial jet accident statistics, this is the first major incident involving the Boeing 787 Dreamliner since the aircraft was first put into service in 2011. According to Boeing, there are currently more than 1,175 Dreamliners in operation, accounting for 2,100 flights daily.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, on June 12, an Air India passenger plane bound for London crashed in Ahmedabad, western India, minutes after taking off from the airport. It was carrying 242 people.
