We hope that in June 2026 there will be no more war – Zelenskyy

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy hopes that in June 2026 "there will be no more war." At the same time, in his opinion, at the beginning of next summer, Western sanctions will become especially noticeable for the economy of the aggressor country, the russian federation. He stated this at a meeting with journalists, Suspilne reports.

"June 2026 - we all hope that there will be no more war. Very much. But at the same time, we understand that the Russians will have an economic feeling from the sanctions. Already from those that have been adopted. And we believe that from that moment, somewhere from the summer of 2026, their economy will feel it strongly," Zelenskyy said.

According to him, the biggest challenge now is the growth of the russian military-industrial complex.

"We see that it will not be able to grow next year, it will decrease. And it will decrease constantly. That is, the economy will completely change, they will spend everything on war," the President added.

He also stressed the importance of the West, and especially the United States, increasing sanctions pressure on russia.

"We are waiting for sanctions from the United States of America. Europe has done it, there is the 17th package. We have discussed the details of the 18th package so that it is stronger, so far privately with colleagues from the European Union - with Ursula von der Leyen and with Antonio Costa. It seems to me that there may be strong things there. If one of the leaders does not block it, then there may be strong things," Zelenskyy said.

The President added that the delay in the new US sanctions package against russia was predicted, because "America was waiting for concessions from the Russian Federation."

"I think America had high hopes, and I think now they have a little less of that feeling that Putin really wants the war to end," he concluded.
