EU to buy oil and gas from russia many times more than it spends on aid to Ukraine - Bild
The aggressor country of russia will receive EUR 20 billion from the sale of gas, uranium and oil to the European Union. This is a much larger amount than Ukraine will receive in the form of military aid from the EU. This was reported by Bild on Tuesday, May 27.
The russian economy was able to withstand pressure from the West despite the introduction of the 17th package of sanctions, and russian dictator vladimir putin currently has no need to stop the war against Ukraine, Bild writes.
"But the European Union is also buying oil, gas and uranium from russia this year for EUR 20 billion. This is much more than what Ukraine receives in the form of military aid," the material says.
This year alone, the russian federation will receive at least EUR 233 billion from the export of energy and raw materials. The three largest trading partners are China, India and Turkey. This allows putin to invest up to 40% of the state budget in weapons, which is 6.3% of GDP. Bild notes that such investments will allow for further modernization of the army.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, the European Union spent EUR 22 billion in 2024 on the purchase of gas and oil from russia's aggressor countries, while it allocated EUR 19 billion for financial assistance to Ukraine.
On May 20, the European Union agreed to impose the 17th package of sanctions against russia for its full-scale military aggression against Ukraine.
On May 27, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha said that the aggressor country of russia spends almost USD 1 billion on the war every day.
