Drone attacks Zaporizhzhia NPP training center for 3rd time since beginning of year – IAEA

The Zaporizhzhia NPP informed the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) team that a drone hit the roof of the station's training center, located just outside its perimeter.

This is stated in the agency's update on Ukraine on its website.

The attack did not cause any casualties or significant damage, but it is currently unknown whether the drone directly crashed into the building or fell on the structure after being shot down.

The IAEA noted that this is the third time this year that the training center has been targeted by a drone.

According to the report, the IAEA team requested permission to visit the training center, as it was able to do so after a previous similar incident in April, but this time permission has not yet been granted.

"These reports of drone incidents are of great concern, as they could pose a direct threat to nuclear safety. Simply put, too many drones are flying near nuclear facilities, not just the Zaporizhzhia NPP. This must stop immediately," commented IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi.

The agency recalled that in February a drone seriously damaged the New Safe Confinement (NSC) at the Chornobyl NPP, in mid-April and early 2025, UAV attacks were recorded near the Zaporizhzhia NPP training center, and the operating nuclear power plants of Ukraine – Khmelnytskyi, Rivne and South Ukraine – also regularly report the detection of drones near their sites.

As a reminder, Zelenskyy said that some employees of the Zaporizhzhia NPP are working under pressure and coercion because the russians took their children to russia.
