Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost from US becomes new Pope
The conclave elected Robert Prevost as the new Pope. Prevost took the name Pope Leo XIV. It was reported by Vatican News on Thursday, May 8.
"We have a Pope! The cardinals, gathered in the Sistine Chapel of the Vatican, elected Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost as the 267th Pope, who took the name Pope Leo XIV," the message said.
The decision was made on the second day of voting. Robert Francis Prevost became the first Pope from the United States.
