AFU soldiers to take part in Victory Day parade in Britain

A unit of the Armed Forces of Ukraine soldiers will join a parade in Great Britain to mark the victory in the World War II. The participation of Ukrainian soldiers symbolizes the West's support in the fight against russian aggression.

This was reported by Reuters.

On Monday, May 6, Ukrainian Armed Forces soldiers will take part in a large-scale military parade in London to mark the 80th anniversary of Victory in Europe Day (VE Day), which marks the end of hostilities in Europe during the World War II.

The Ukrainian military will march alongside about a thousand British soldiers, cavalry and military orchestras as a symbol of global support for Ukraine in its fight against russian aggression.

"In the midst of the first full-scale war in Europe since the World War II, it is fitting that the Ukrainian Armed Forces, now fighting on the front lines of freedom, are represented at the event on Monday," said British Defense Secretary John Healey.

May 8 is the traditional date for VE Day in the United Kingdom, France and the United States, when Germany signed its surrender in 1945. Russia, then fighting as part of the Soviet Union, celebrates Victory Day on May 9.

The commemorations in London include a military parade, an air show and a thanksgiving service at the Westminster Abbey, which is expected to feature members of the Royal Family.

In addition to Ukraine, the ceremony will also feature military personnel from Australia, Canada and New Zealand, who will carry the flags of their countries.
