Blackout in Spain: 92% of electricity supply restored, all substations working

After a large-scale blackout that occurred on April 28, 92.09% of electricity supply has already been restored in Spain. All substations of the transmission network are working normally again.

This was reported by El Pais, citing the Vice President of the Spanish Government and Minister for the Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenges, Sara Aagesen.

"92.09% of electricity demand has already been met," Aagesen said, adding that "100% of the transmission network substations have also been restored."

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez spent the night at the headquarters of the national energy network operator Red Eléctrica, where he coordinated efforts to restore electricity.

"We are working non-stop to restore supply. Thanks to all the workers who are making efforts to restore normal life," Sánchez wrote on social media.

Vice Prime Ministers María Jesús Montero and Sara Aagesen were also at the Red Eléctrica headquarters. At 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 29, they are scheduled to participate in a meeting of the National Security Council chaired by King Felipe VI.

As a reminder, at around 12:30 p.m. on Monday local time, a large-scale outage left the entire Iberian Peninsula - Spain, Portugal and part of southern France - without electricity.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, parts of Spain and Portugal were left without power on April 28 due to a large-scale power outage, which caused chaos at airports, train stations and on roads.
