Trump declares "Trade War" with world: which countries will be most affected

US President Donald Trump has officially launched a tariff, or "trade" war, against all countries, imposing duties ranging from 10% to 50% on imports, depending on the country of origin.

He announced this on Wednesday evening at an event at the White House, Yevropeiiska Pravda reports.

At a gathering called "Make America Great Again," the US President called April 2 "America's Liberation Day," explaining his actions by his desire to protect the country from foreign products. "Foreign leaders have stolen our jobs, foreign cheaters have ransacked our factories, and foreign scavengers have torn apart our once-beautiful American Dream," Trump said.

A presidential decree declares a national emergency in the US due to the foreign trade deficit.

The response measures include tariffs on all imports:

• A base rate of 10% for all goods;
• A higher tariff for countries with which the US has the largest trade deficit.

The White House has published a table of tariff rates, but some countries are missing. In particular, russia, which is likely to receive a minimum 10% tariff, is not included.

Countries subject to the new tariffs:

• European Union – 20% on exports to the US.
• Ukraine – a minimum tariff of 10%.
• Canada and Mexico – a tariff of 25%, but with exceptions for product groups within the North American Free Trade Agreement.
• The highest tariffs (50%) are on products from African Lesotho and the French overseas possession of Saint-Pierre-et-Miquelon near Canada.

It is expected that this step may provoke a sharp reaction from the international community and lead to corresponding actions from other countries.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, in late February this year, US President Donald Trump announced that Washington would impose 25% tariffs on all European goods. They are due to come into effect tomorrow, April 2.
