Zelenskyy says he would not sign agreement with US if it would threaten Ukraine's accession to EU
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Ukraine would not sign an agreement on minerals with the United States of America if the document would threaten Ukraine's accession to the European Union.
According to RBC-Ukraine, Zelenskyy said this during his briefing.
The President recalled that the Constitution of Ukraine clearly states that the country's course is towards the European Union.
"There are very important reforms, there are appropriate steps. Nothing that could threaten Ukraine's accession to the EU cannot be accepted," Zelenskyy said.
According to him, Ukraine will not sign an agreement if it would threaten the country's European integration.
Zelenskyy added that he would consider the agreement proposed by the US only if it did not contain relevant legislative threats.
Recall that on March 27, Verkhovna Rada member Yaroslav Zhelezniak (Holos) reported that the new draft agreement on minerals provides that three out of five members of the US Reconstruction Investment Fund will have full veto power, and the US contribution will be aid already provided to Ukraine since 2022. In addition, the agreement does not contain a single word about security guarantees.
President Zelenskyy, commenting on the new version of the document, said that it is too early to talk about signing the agreement. According to him, the document will be studied by lawyers.
We also wrote that the chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Foreign Policy and Interparliamentary Cooperation Oleksandr Merezhko (Servant of the People) called the new version of the agreement on minerals absurd.
