Ukraine ready to ratify Free Trade Agreement with Turkey during Erdogan's upcoming visit, - Zelenskyy

Ukraine is ready to ratify the Free Trade Agreement with Turkey during the upcoming visit of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced this on the Telegram channel, the Ukrainian News agency reports.

"Our state considers Turkey as one of our strategic partners, as well as one of our partners in terms of security guarantees, and is ready to ratify the Free Trade Agreement with Turkey during President Erdoğan's upcoming visit," he said.

Zelenskyy spoke about a meaningful meeting with representatives of the Turkish government and business, which is the result of agreements with Erdogan in Ankara, during which they discussed efforts to bring about a justand lasting peace, the development of bilateral relations, opportunities for cooperation in the production of various types of drones, and the participation of Turkish companies in the reconstruction of Ukraine.

In turn, Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal reported on the Telegram channel that he discussed deepening economic cooperation and increasing trade turnover with Turkish Trade Minister Ömer Bolat and Agriculture and Forestry Minister İbrahim Yumaklı.

Shmyhal noted good prospects for intensifying trade and economic relations with Turkey after the Free Trade Agreement enters into force.

According to him, Ukraine is interested in supplying Turkey with grain, sunflower oil, corn and other products. At the same time, Turkish business is considering the possibility of building feed production plants in Ukraine. The parties are also interested in cooperating in the field of irrigation and land reclamation, which will contribute to increasing the turnover of agricultural products.

Ukraine is counting on launching joint projects in the field of road infrastructure restoration, water transport, projects to protect critical infrastructure, and housing restoration.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, Zelenskyy advocates involving Turkey in negotiations to end russia's war against Ukraine.

In February 2022, Ukraine and Turkey signed a free trade agreement.
