India has signed a contract with the russian state company Rosoboronexport for the supply of engines for T-72 tanks, which form the basis of the tank fleet of the Indian armed forces. The cost of the deal was a quarter of a billion dollars.

This was reported by the Indian publication The Times of India.

According to the publication, the contract provides for the supply of 1,000 horsepower engines for Indian T-72 tanks. They are to replace the 780-horsepower engines that are currently equipped with Indian vehicles.

The contract between India and russia was signed today, March 7. Its value was USD 248 million.

The publication writes that the conclusion of the contract was dictated by the fact that T-72 tanks form the basis of the tank fleet of the Indian army, which is increasing the number of armored vehicles against the backdrop of the confrontation with China.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, in October 2024, Forbes wrote that India is implementing a number of large-scale initiatives to modernize its army, taking into account the experience of russia's full-scale war against Ukraine.

Recall that the Financial Times previously wrote that after the start of the major war against Ukraine, russia developed a plan to build dozens of factories in India for the production of electronics, access to which Moscow lost due to Western sanctions.

We also wrote that, according to Politico, India has decided to abandon large-scale imports of weapons from russia.
