Reduced russian casualties reflect slower pace of russian operations – British intelligence

Russian casualties in the war remain high, but have declined - average daily casualties were 1,255, the lowest since August 2024. This likely reflects a slowdown in russian operations.

The UK Ministry of Defence has reported this.

"Russia has likely sustained approximately 90,000 casualties (killed and wounded) in the Russia-Ukraine conflict so far in 2025. Since invading Ukraine, Russia has likely sustained approximately 875,000 casualties in total," the report said.

In particular, according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, average daily russian casualties in February 2025 were 1,255, the lowest average daily casualties since August 2024.

The total number of recorded russian casualties in February 2025 was 35,140 people, which is approximately 13,000 less than in January, which was the second highest monthly figure for the entire time of the full-scale war.

"The decrease in the recorded rate of casualties, whilst remaining high, likely reflects a decrease in the tempo of Russian operations and assaults. Russia’s casualty rate will likely continue to average above 1,000 a day in March 2025, with continued dismounted infantry attacks on multiple axes," the department concluded.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, the Armed Forces of Ukraine destroyed 1,250 occupiers and 7 units of armored vehicles per day, the General Staff named the losses of the russian federation.
