DTEK: Ukraine needs up to two billion cubic meters of imported gas after russian attacks
Ukraine will have to purchase from 1 to 2 billion cubic meters of gas this year to prepare for the next heating season.
Ekonomichna Pravda reported this with reference to Bloomberg, the Ukrainian News agency reports.
DTEK CEO Maksym Timchenko provided this assessment and noted that the exact volume of imports will depend on the restoration of gas infrastructure, production and weather conditions.
It is noted that in 2024, Ukraine received 724 million cubic meters of gas from abroad, according to ExPro Consulting.
At the same time, approximately a third of the fuel was re-exported to neighboring countries that used Ukrainian storage facilities.
After the russian attacks on gas infrastructure this winter, Ukraine increased fuel imports from the EU.
Despite the damage to 90% of DTEK's generating capacities, most of them were restored.
"Damage to the gas infrastructure is not that significant," Timchenko noted.
The company also plans to invest EUR 600 million in wind power and batteries over two years.
In addition, DTEK is developing projects in Romania, Poland and Croatia and is considering other markets in Southeastern Europe.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, DTEK intends to conclude an agreement on the import of liquefied natural gas within the next two months.
