United Kingdom preparing new aid package for Ukraine and sanctions against russia – media
On February 24, the British government intends to announce a new military aid package for Ukraine, as well as introduce additional sanctions against the russian federation.
The Daily Telegraph (UK newspaper) has reported this.
The British government also seeks to assure its allies of its readiness to increase defense spending. Prime Minister Keir Starmer, during a visit to Washington scheduled for February 27, plans to announce his intention to increase the country's defense spending to 2.5% of GDP by 2030. This figure is currently 2.3%, but the specific terms of its increase have not yet been determined.
In addition to talks on international security, the British leader will give U.S. President Donald Trump an official invitation from King Charles III to visit the UK on a state visit. If Trump accepts this offer, he will become the first U.S. President to make such a visit twice. The previous state reception at Buckingham Palace was held in 2019, when Trump was in his first term.
London’s decision to support Kyiv and increase pressure on moscow is consistent with the British government’s overall strategy to strengthen European security and support international order. In the future, the United Kingdom plans to maintain a high level of cooperation with Ukraine in the military and diplomatic spheres.
